Winter break is a welcome rest for Indianapolis school students and families after a semester’s hard work, but for those who rely on their school’s breakfast and lunch programs, it can mean an interruption of regular meals—and a food hardship until school resumes.
Fortunately, there are plenty of places that students, and their families, can find breakfast, lunch, and other food resources during winter break.
IPS Winter Break Meals Program
During winter break, December 26th - December 28th and January 2nd - January 4th, Indianapolis Public Schools will offer FREE breakfast and lunch for those under the age of 18 at sites across the district. Children do not need to attend IPS or live in the district to access this program.
A network of different organizations work together to make sure all in Central Indiana have enough to eat throughout the year. These organizations host free meals and food pantries to help provide regular access to food throughout the region. Or call Connect 2 Help by dialing 211 (or 317-926-4357) and asking for what you need.
To navigate this system more easily, and to find the closest meals or food pantry near you, try the Foodfinder web app. Simply allow the use of your location and its map will show the locations closest to you, along with web links and contact info for more information.
