FAQ

Are your services available for individuals or just for families?

We serve both individuals and families throughout Central Indiana.

How will my privacy be protected?

Families First Notice of Privacy Practices (9-23-13)

I know I need help, but I’m afraid to seek services

Our therapists and staff recognize that it is not always easy to ask for help or to even admit that you need it. They will treat you with respect and non-judgmental attitudes and will do their best to put you at ease. The philosophy of our organization is that all individuals and families have strengths, and that no one sets out to fail as parents, spouses or in other aspects of their family life. We take your rights seriously, including your right to privacy and confidentiality.

Do you take Medicaid or any health insurance plans?

We accept Medicaid, and many other health insurance plans. When you call to make an initial appointment, our Intake Counselor can help determine if your insurance is accepted and whether you would have a co-pay.

What if I can’t afford services at Families First?

We believe that everyone deserves access to quality support services and programs. At Families First, we do our best to make resources affordable for people of all income levels. We offer a sliding fee for all of our services and programs. Charges are based on household income and the number of persons in the family.

I don’t have a vehicle. Is Families First on a bus line?

Yes. Families First is located in the English Foundation building, at the intersection of Alabama and North St. There is an IndyGO bus stop on Alabama St., directly in front of our building.

Also, an Indiana Pacers Bikeshare rack is available at the corner of Alabama and North streets along the Indianapolis Cultural Trail, and a BlueIndy car sharing station is located across the street from our building.

Can I bring my kids when I come to Families First?

If you will be participating in a group or individual therapy session, and access to childcare would otherwise inhibit your ability to attend counseling or treatment, child care may be available to you upon request.

Please keep in mind that if you will be coming to Families First for family counseling, your kids may be involved in sessions. In some cases, children may be seen alone, by a therapist who specializes in play therapy.

When parents or family members are being seen for adult concerns that are not appropriate for children to hear about, we may ask that you not bring your children with you to Families First.

Can I get help through more than one of your programs?

Yes, some individuals and families benefit from more than one of our programs.

Do your therapists prescribe medications?

No, our therapists do not prescribe medications for clients. However, medical referrals for prescription evaluation are made if and when a therapist thinks it is necessary.

How is Families First funded?

Families First is a private, non-profit organization funded by community grants, foundations, and the generous support of private donors. We are proud to be a United Way partner organization.
